The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team defeated the Manhattan Jaspers on Senior Day with a 60-40 win to extend their winning streak to six games.
Freshman guard Gal Raviv, sophomore guard Karson Martin and senior guard Jackie Grisdale led all scorers with 12 points. Sophomore center Anna Foley also added 11 points and seven rebounds in the victory effort.
The Bobcats led the Jaspers at the end of the first quarter 15-13 despite struggling from three point range shooting 22 percent and 35 percent from the field.
“I feel like as a shooter you always have to have the mindset of the next one’s going in,” Grisdale said. “No matter what happens as soon as you release the ball, it goes in, it doesn’t go in, you’re like, okay, the next time I’m wide open I’m gonna shoot the ball.”
In the second quarter, the Bobcats started to catch fire from three point land. Martin was 3/4 from three in the second quarter, which helped open up a double-digit lead at halftime, 34-23. Martin led all scorers with nine points at the break.
The Bobcats continued to their momentum from the second quarter and opened up a 16 point lead in the early third quarter. The Jaspers only scored nine points in the third quarter amidst stifling defense from the Bobcats. Grisdale also caught fire from three and led all scorers with 12 points at the end of the third.
More of the same dominance on the defensive end continued for the Bobcats, only allowing eight points in the fourth quarter to open up a 24 point lead, their biggest lead of the game. Quinnipiac closed the game out strong on both ends of the court to secure the victory.
The team also honored their senior class to cap off a great day for the Bobcats.
“I thought today was a great team win, a great day for us to celebrate our graduating players,” head coach Tricia Fabbri said. “I thought we could be a little more efficient offensively, but wire to wire it was a really good team win today.”
The Bobcats controlled the boards 51-39, a major contributing factor in the win. “I was really pleased with our effort off the glass defensively and also offensively,” head coach Tricia Fabbri said. “That’s something we need to continue to get more production out of in that stack.”
This win improves the Bobcats to 14-2 in the MAAC and 22-3 overall. Quinnipiac will move on to play the Saint Peter’s Peacocks on Thursday at 7 p.m.
