The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team clinched a 20-win season on Thursday night. They continued their four-game winning streak by blowing out Sacred Heart 71-47.
“I’m really proud of these ladies, our journey has been such a good one,” said Coach Fabbri. “I’m so happy for them and everyone that was here last year that faced the adversity of replenishing a roster with youth and dealing with injury. And of course, with the addition of Gal and Coranda.”
Gal Raviv finished with 22 points, while Anna Foley and Grace LaBarge finished with 11 points. LaBarge came off the bench and had a huge impact on the game. The Bobcats also scored 18 bench points over Sacred Heart.
With the Bobcats’ lead only getting greater, they started to send bench players into the game, which led to Freshman Emma Lizotte recording her first point in her collegiate career.
“Being a senior on the team I was in her shoes not too long ago, and I remember my seniors going wild for me on the bench and it was just such a great feeling, and so for Emma to get out there, she’s working her butt off every single day,” says LaBarge
The Bobcats’ game started slow, trailing by eight to Sacred Heart. The Bobcats then went on a 12-0 run to take the lead with a first-quarter score of 16-12.
The Bobcats played great defense, forcing the Pioneers to turn the ball over five times during that run. Ella O’Donnell got a steal, which became a layup for Karson Martin’s fast-break layup. In the next play, Karson got a steal. While QU was on that run, they forced five turnovers from Sacred Heart.
“Honestly, I think we started off a little slow. But once our defense picked up, our offense started to pick up,” Gal Raviv. Raviv finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. That marks her 17th game out of 22, scoring in double figures.
The Bobcats only allowed the Pioneers to score eight points in the second quarter, which was their game-low as the Bobcats put up 17 points. Seven players scored in the second quarter, getting two points of hers. The Bobcats went on a 9-2 lead before the half.
Anna Foley started the third with a turnover but then quickly got it back on the other end, getting a block that led to a fast break for Karson. The Bobcats went on to score six straight points, seeing a three from Jackie Grisdale, who shot 2-2 from the three.
The Bobcats continued to put on a show, scoring 21 points in the final quarter to close out the game. With this win, the team is now 20-3 and will travel to New Rochelle, NY, to face off against Iona on Saturday, February 15th, at 1 p.m.
