The No. 7 Quinnipiac Bobcats women’s hockey team defeated the Northeastern Huskies 4-2 on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the weekend series and extending their season-opening win streak to eight games.
The story of the weekend was junior winger Kahlen Lamarche, who scored seven goals in the two game set, a feat that hadn’t been reached by any NCAA women’s player in the past seven years.
“This group always finds a way to come together,” said Lamarche following the win. “We got together in that second intermission and we said we want this.”
Head coach Cass Turner praised the third-year player as she continues her breakout in the 2025-26 campaign.
“She really has worked so hard to get where she’s at,” said Turner. “She’s always had a special shot, and I think she’s real confident with how she’s shooting the puck right now.”
A dull first period saw no goals from either side. A power play opportunity from both teams in the first frame were unsuccessful as each team’s penalty kill stood firm.
Unlike yesterday’s matchup, the Huskies struck first just 99 seconds into the second period. Sophomore winger Eloise Caron snuck one behind Bobcats goaltender Felicia Frank to open up the scoring.
Quinnipiac’s first line turned the tides offensively halfway through the period. Lamarche tipped one in as she scored her 10th goal of the season to tie the game at a goal apiece.
Junior center Allie Lalonde’s first goal of the season helped put Northeastern back on top after a precision feed from defenseman Tuva Kandell. Defenses stifled for the remainder of the period as Quinnipiac had 20 minutes to keep their perfect start to the season alive.
Five minutes into the final frame, Lamarche found the back of the net a second time by throwing one towards the net as it got past first-year netminder Renna Trembecky to tie the game for the Bobcats once again.
Several chances from each offense flurried in the final minutes, however, Frank and Trembecky refused to back down. This was the case until, yet again, Lamarche continued her scoring mirage with her third goal of the game and seventh overall on the weekend on a breakaway with just under two minutes remaining.
“I kept thinking to myself to not miss the net,” said Lamarche. “It was a nice pass down low, so it all started with that.”
The Bobcats wouldn’t relinquish the lead as Emerson Jarvis iced the game with an empty net strike to make it 4-2.
The Bobcats didn’t win their eighth game last season until November 1st. With eight wins in as many contests to begin the year, coach Turner credits the offense as the difference this season.
“We have a group that can put the puck in the back of the net,” said Turner. “More depth up front is putting us in a good position.”
Quinnipiac’s first conference matchup comes next Friday as they visit rival Yale.
“We’re really pumped about being undefeated right now,” said graduate forward Laurence Frennette. “But we can’t sit back on that, we have to come in on Monday and continue to work hard.”
The temperature is getting colder in Hamden, but there’s no sense of cooling down with the Bobcats on the ice.
