The Quinnipiac Bobcats took on the Northeastern Huskies in an anticipated match-up, as both teams are currently undefeated. Each team comes into the game with a strong lineup, with Quinnipiac’s goalie Felicia Frank coming off being named the goaltender of the week for three consecutive weeks, as well as junior Zoe Uens being named defender of the week. Northeastern was led by its captain, Lily Shannon, the Hockey East Player of the Week, who has eight points in the past four games.
The first period started with aggressive offense from both Northeastern and Quinnipiac, as Aynsley D’Ottavio got a shot on the Huskies goal, though goaltender Lisa Jönsson blocked it. Northeastern also started strong, after a few shots by Huskies’ freshman forward Stryker Zablocki getting near the net; however, they were stopped short by Frank. Both sophomore defenderElla Sennick and Zoe Uens contributed to Quinnipiac’s defense with blocks of shots.
With just over six minutes remaining in the first period, Emerson Jarvis scored her second goal of the season with an assist from graduate forward Laurence Frenette. Quinnipiac would then find themselves on the penalty kill with a two-minute interference call against graduate captain Mia Lopata; however, Northeastern was unable to capitalize. The first period closed with Quinnipiac up on Northeastern one to zero.
The Bobcats started strong in the opening of the second period, with a goal just 30 seconds into the period by Kahlen Lamarche, adding to her four goals scored last weekend against Syracuse.
Quinnipiac would then commit two penalties, one for roughing and one for slashing, allowing Northeastern to go up five on three on the power play. However, the Huskies were again unable to convert despite the two-man advantage. Lamarche tallied her second for the Bobcats, putting them up three to zero.
Quinnipiac then had a chance on the power play after Northeastern sophomore defender Tuva Kandall received a two-minute penalty for interference, but the Bobcats were unable to capitalize. After many repeated attempts by the Huskies, sophomore forward Élosïse Caron scored the first goal for the team with four minutes to play in the first. Closing out the period, sophomore defender Aynsley D’Ottavio is given two minutes for body checking, a penalty that put the Bobcats on the penalty kill early on in the second.
The third period started with multiple penalties, something that would continue throughout the game. Northeastern came out strong on the power play with a goal from senior defender Jules Constantinople, assisted by Zablocki and senior forward Lily Shannon. Another strong power play for Huskies occurred in the subsequent minutes capped off by Constantinople’s second goal of the game. The penalties did not stop there, with multiple players from both teams being sent to the penalty box. However, the penalties did not stop Lamarche from completing her hat trick, scoring her third and fourth goals with assists from senior forward Tessa Holk and Frenette, and Frenette and D’Ottavio, respectively. Despite the close game, Quinnipiac was able to pull ahead and win five to three.
