The Quinnipiac University women’s volleyball team fell short in Wednesday’s game against the St. Francis Terriers. St. Francis (2-13) defeated the Bobcats (1-12) in all three sets, despite the evenly matched game. The game began with equal pressure from both teams—there were even scoring opportunities and possession. But it was St. Francis that took advantage of their opportunities, starting with Dominique Gerard’s point early into the first set.
Quinnipiac had plenty of chances, and as the game progressed, their pressure increased. The Bobcats took the lead after sophomore Elizabeth Kloos’ three spikes in the first set. But junior Domenique Gerard and freshman Angela Hudelson gave the Terriers a boost and they surpassed the Bobcats by the end of the first set with a couple of well-placed spikes.
Both teams had chances in the second set, but it was St. Francis that scored again early on, on a shot from junior Milica Mladjenovic. Quinnipiac was unable to retaliate, and the final score was 25-20 in the second set. Quinnipiac was unable to keep up in the third set and lost 25-18.
Quinnipiac head coach Kris Czaplinski was not happy with the team effort, and wanted better preparation from his team. “[The team] should have gotten to the game plan and had everything ready to go,” Czaplinksi said.
The Bobcats are back in action on Sept. 26, when they travel to Fairfield to take on the Fairfield Stags.
