The Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated the Manhattan Jaspers by a score of 3-1 on Saturday evening, which makes nine straight wins for the Bobcats. By improving to 15-11 on the season and 12-2 in the conference, these energized Bobcats are keeping their MAAC hopes alive.
This win not only marks the ninth straight win on the season, but it also marks the ninth straight win over Manhattan. A team they haven’t lost to since the 2020 season.
As the win felt nice, the Bobcats did give up their first set to Manhattan in nearly three years. As Quinnipiac was beating Manhattan 2-0, the Jaspers came back to take a point in the third set. This was due to many miscommunications among players and a large lead blown mid-way through the set as the Bobcats were leading by 8.
“We played a good game, although it may not look like it. Manhattan is a tough team because they have nothing to lose,” said Coach Robinson on his team’s win.
Several parts throughout the game, the Bobcats seemed to be on a run, but the momentum would drain away by the mid-set and Manhattan took the points that the Bobcats were giving them on a silver platter.
“I don’t think Manhattan did anything; it was us. We lost our focus and it wasn’t what Manhattan was doing; it was what we weren’t doing,” said Coach Robinson.
The Bobcats, at times, looked to be taking large leads that would eventually take them into a turnstile of bad reads, bad plays, and aggravations among players and coaches.
When asked what his message to the team was, Coach Robinson said “We’re just worried about tomorrow, the next day, the next day, and the next day. We had a long week, so don’t go home to watch a film. Go to the library, go to a friend’s house”
Coach Robinson was pleased with the rookies’ performances as well. He was most pleased with the work that number 11, Asia Belli and number 14, Klara Olszewka, have been bringing to the team.
“Asia has been killing it all season, she’s a great improvement to our builds. Klara is a really great young setter, she’s making young mistakes but she is still growing,” said Robinson.
These Bobcats may not be walking away with its second straight 3-0 game at home but it was still a win at the end of the day. Otherwise, this would have been a disappointing loss over a team that has been struggling throughout this season.
The Bobcats will be taking on the Saint Peter’s Peacocks next Friday night and the Rider Broncs next Saturday night.
