Per the conference website, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has cancelled non-conference play for volleyball, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer.

The statement, released Friday morning, announced the cancellation of non-conference play for the three affected sports, as well as the prospected start dates and the start dates for the conference postseason tournaments.

“The MAAC Council of Presidents has voted to cancel the non-conference competition in the sports of volleyball and soccer for the fall of 2020.

“The council will revisit at its July 24 meeting any modifications to conference play for these sports,” read the statement.

The decision also included an update to men’s and women’s basketball, stating that athletes will have no access to school facilities during the summer. Access will re-open when the full student body returns to campus in the fall.

The decision comes on the heels of the Ivy League and the Patriot League cancelling their fall seasons outright. Several other modifications to collegiate sports in the fall have also been made, including conference-only football schedules and a number of Division-II and Division-III conferences also cancelling their fall seasons.

Interestingly, the decision doesn’t seem to affect cross-country, the MAAC’s fourth and final fall sport.

Quinnipiac field hockey, which competes in the Big East, received the same fate less than 24 hours ago when the conference announced that it, too, was cancelling all non-conference play.

The MAAC Council of Presidents next meets on July 24 to further discuss the ongoing topic of a fall season.
