Quinnipiac (2-1, MAAC 2-1) opened its doubleheader with a 3-2 victory against Canisius (2-1, MAAC 2-1) this Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcats were led by junior Maggie Baker and sophomore Aryanah Diaz. Baker dominated with 25 kills and 67 total attacks. Meanwhile, Diaz was also an active presence on the court with 25 digs and 60 total attacks.

All was going well for Quinnipiac within the first two sets. The Bobcats were successfully finishing their attacks and controlled the tempo of the match.

Since Canisius was playing defensively, it did not receive many opportunities to put away the point. As a result, the Bobcats capitalized on Canisius’ struggles by winning 25-19 in the first set and 25-22 in the second set.

However, Canisius came alive for the third and fourth sets. Outside hitter Ella Loussia and middle hitter Elle Shult each found their rhythm by attaining multiple kills and attacks.

Their firepower proved to be too much for the Bobcats as Canisius won both sets by a score of 25-23.

It would all come down to the fifth and final set to 15 points to decide the outcome of the match.

Senior Morgan Sherwin showcased her leadership by taking charge of the Bobcats offense. Sherwin scored five points from her five kills, with her fifth kill finishing off the Golden Griffins.

Quinnipiac had won the set 15-9, along with the overall match,3-2.

The Bobcats demonstrated their resilience with their resounding triumph. Even though they allowed Canisius to come back, they were locked in and did not let the match slip away from them.

Quinnipiac will return to the Burt Kahn Court later today at 4:00 PM in an attempt for a Sunday sweep against the Golden Griffins.
