The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team defeated Saint Anselm in a close game on Friday with a final score of 4-3. Saint Anselm was looking to get their second win of the season and start a winning streak, however Quinnipiac is now 5-0-0 this season, keeping their undefeated winning streak alive so far.

Although Quinnipiac came out with the win, it was not easy. Head coach Cass Turner said Saint Anselm was a tough team to beat.

“Saint Ans[elm] they played a feisty game, they didn’t quit until the very end, and they showed that with that third goal,” Turner said. “I’m glad we’re able to learn some lessons and learn some lessons with a win versus learn some lessons with a loss.”

Quinnipiac junior Sadie Peart was the leading scorer of the evening with two goals in the first period along with one assist.

Peart said the first goal boosted the confidence of her and the rest of the team.

“It builds it a lot I would say,” Peart said. “I think our whole team is learning more about ourselves so getting a lot of experience is good.”

Senior Lexie Adzija and junior Alexa Hoskin both contributed with scoring tonight, as they both scored one goal each, contributing to the Bobcats’ four goals scored throughout the game.

The second period was not a scoring period for the Bobcats, and Saint Anselm tied up the game 2-2 at the end of the second period.

In between the second and third period as the game was tied, Quinnipiac looked to focus on the fact that their defense needed more work in order to keep this game from being so close.

“We’re getting a little ahead of ourselves with being more the offensive side of the puck than the defensive side,” Adzija said. “So in the third period we adjusted and protected our net first and that led to more offense I think.”

Sophomore Catie Boudiette was able to have a total of eight saves for the Bobcats on Friday, and first year student Ann-Frédérik Naud led the game in assists with three.

The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team looks to keep their winning streak alive on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 3pm, as they have a rematch against Saint Anselm.
