Sharks Come into Hamden and Take Massive Bite out of the Bobcats

On Saturday afternoon, the Long Island University Sharks secured a 13-6 road win over the Quinnipiac Bobcats.

The scoring started early for the Sharks as Julia Trainor was able to break free and shoot a rocket past Bobcats goalie Kat Henselder just 47 seconds into the game.

The first quarter was more of the same as the Sharks were able to go up 5-0 on the Bobcats after the opening frame when Olivia Fantigrossi went five-hole on Henselder.

It looked like a comeback could be in the works when a minute into the second quarter, Emily Feeney for the Bobcats was able to get on the board and make it a 5-1 game.

At this point, the Sharks took full control and scored the next three goals in the quarter giving them an 8-1 halftime lead.

The third quarter had exciting moments that included the Sharks goalie Lily Billelo making a highlight reel pass that found a wide-open Leah Nonnemann down the field, went in on a breakaway and made no mistake and tucked one home.

The scoring in the quarter was capped off by Sharks leading goalscorer, Lluna Katz, doing what she does best and secured a hattrick on a low bullet that gave Henselder no chance.

The quarter would end in LIU’s favor, 11-1.

The Bobcats started the fourth quarter with a goalie change as sophomore Lindsay Mazzucco came in to replace the veteran Henselder.

It was a rough start to the quarter as the Sharks got the first two goals to extend their lead to 13-1, but the Bobcats did show a lot of fight down the stretch.

EllaGrace Delmond was able to break the long scoring run by the Sharks when she shot a rocket past Lilello on a free-position shot.

The goals kept coming for the Bobcats as Maddie Deegan was able to get on the score sheet and Sophie Spencer recorded a hattrick of her own in the fourth.

In a game that the Bobcats might look to forget, the fourth quarter presented them with the momentum that they can look to take into their next game.

The Bobcats will look to carry that momentum into their next game when they take on their cross-town rivals, Yale Bulldogs, at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in Hamden, Connecticut.
