The Bobcats kicked off their 10-game home stand by getting a big win over Niagara and defeating the Purple Eagles 6-2.

The game started off slow as sophomore Sydney Horan was dealing to start the game retiring the first six batters she faced in the game. However, after a leadoff walk to start the third inning for Niagara sophomore, Lindsay Mayo hit a go-ahead triple to take the first lead of the day for the Purple Eagles.

The Bobcats tighten up after that getting themselves out of a couple of tough situations including a great play by the senior Serena Fogg who came all the way down from left field to cover the third base and pick up a key out on a double steal attempt.

Going into the fourth inning the Bobcats’ bats started heating up after two big singles to start the inning after sophomore Amanda Engel got hit by a pitch to load the bases, the first year Sophia Vega stepped up big, hitting a double down the third base line that would clear to bases to make it 3-1 Bobcats.

The rally wouldn’t end there as sophomore Brooke Hillard continued to pour on the runs for Quinnipiac getting a big two-out base hit to make it 5-1 Bobcats.

The fifth inning kicked off with another big-time inning from Horan as she was able to retire the side with a big-time strikeout to end the inning that got the Bobcats bench fired up.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bobcats’ bats continued to stay hot as the inning started off with a triple down the third base line that would result in a run after a wild pitch on the very next play.

Niagara was able to get back on the board in the top of the sixth after two big doubles to start the inning drove in a run. However, the rally was cut short by another big-time pitching performance by Horan saved the inning.

Horan then was able to come in and finish the game strong retiring the side to win the game for the Bobcats 6-2.

After Game two of the doubleheader, the Bobcats will return to action Monday, April 3 at 11:00 a.m. against Canisius.
