The Quinnipiac Bobcats played the Colgate Raiders this past Friday night at M&T Bank Arena. They came into the game with fire in their hearts after losing to them in a heartbreaker earlier in the season in overtime. The Bobcats were coming off a five-game win streak and it showed early on.
The night started off strong for the Bobcats with Kahlen Lamarche scoring the first goal of the night. This goal marked her 28th of the season. The Bobcats kept the goals coming when Sophomore Makayla Watson scored her fourth goal of the season. The Bobcats ended the first period strong with a 2-0 lead and 11 shots on Colgate’s goalie Brooke Davis.
The second period didn’t show the same amount of scoring we saw from the Bobcats in the first. Though the Bobcats were able to produce 13 shots on goal, Davis was able to stay strong and keep them out of the net the entire period.
The Bobcats did not convert on their first power play of the second period, but were able to kill off a penalty with goaltender Felicia Frank making several key saves and keep the Raiders to zero going into the third period.
As the third period rolled on, Lamarche and Watson knew their jobs weren’t done for the night. Lamarche scored her second of the night which brought her total to 29 goals on the season. Then on a power play, Watson quickly took advantage and scored her fifth of the season, bringing the Bobcats to a 4-0 lead.
With Colgate getting desperate, they pulled Davis, allowing Watson put one in the empty net, completing the hat trick.
When asked how she’s going to carry this momentum into tomorrow, she said “this is a game that we have had circled on our calendars all year, I need to and my team needs to play our best tomorrow.”
The Bobcats were able to hold off Colgate for most of the game and it felt like the Raiders stood no chance against the stronger wrath of the Bobcats. Coach Turner agreed and felt “this team went by the game plan and that is why we won.”
The most impressive part of the night was Frank’s performance, saving 31 out of the 32 shots.
The Bobcats will now get ready to play Cornell tomorrow afternoon at home with much momentum after winning their 20th game of the season. Then they will prepare themselves to go four straight games on the road as the end of the season nears.
